How to use AVG AntiVirus!
The best way to keep your system free of viruses is to check for updates and run a full system scan at least once a week, best days to do it are Thursday or Friday! AVG is easy to maintain. Check on it now and then to make sure it is up to date and run a scan manually weekly. Update AVG 1. Open AVG a. Click Start, then go to All Programs, then to AVG Free Edition and click on AVG Free Edition for Windows ....or right click the AVG icon in the system tray in the lower right corner of your desktop and click on Launch AVG Test Center 2. Click Check for Updates in the right pane of the AVG screen 3. Click Internet 4. Highlight available update and Click Update 5. Click OK when it finishes 6. Repeat steps 2 thru 5 until it shows no available updates 1. Open AVG a. Click on Scan Computer 3. Once finished, Click OK If you missed the test results window that pops up, you can still verify you are virus free. Follow these instructions to verify. 1. Click Test Results in the left pane 2. Verify that it shows No Viruses Found What if it shows you have a virus and it didn't get rid of it? Don't panic. There are a few things we can do to get rid of these pesky viruses. Scenario one: AVG will sometimes give you a pop up that shows it found a virus. This window will have options on what to do with it. Always click the option Move to Vault. Once a file has been moved to the vault, it is no longer a threat to your system. If your computer is acting normal after moving that file to the vault then it is safe to empty the vault and get rid of the file. If it does cause problems, then the file needs to be restored and then replaced with an uninfected file. We can do that for you. To empty the vault 1. Click on Virus Vault in the left pane 2. Click on Action at the top of the window 3. Click on Empty Vault from the drop down menu To Restore a file 1. Click on Virus Vault in the left pane 2. Highlight the file you need to restore 2. Click on Action at the top of the window 3. Click on Restore File(s) Scenario two: AVG shows it found a virus in the scan, but didn't do anything with it. You have two choices to remove this file. First, you can find it and delete the file yourself, or you can bring it in to us and we will remove the file for you. It all depends on how comfortable you are with exploring Windows file system. How to find the file 1. Click Test Results in the left pane of the AVG window 2. Double click the Test that states it found a virus 3. Scroll down until you find the file - it will be in red writing 4. Make note of the path....example would be C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp 5. Explore to the file location and delete the file manually.
